NHRA Fram Autolite Nationals *RESULTS*
« on: July 28, 2008, 03:24:06 pm »
Results from Sonoma
This is the third event in the western swing except  for the pro stock motorcycles

Pro Stock Motorcycle
Low Qualifier -. Karen Stoffer -Geico Suzuki- 6.962  @ 191.21mph
Apparently this is the first number 1 for Karen (thought she had one already but maybe not)
She is the 29th different rider to do so in the 265th race of pro stock motorcycle

Final Round
 (W) Matt Guidera (Rocklin Motorsports Buell)         0.018      7.054  @ 185.74mph
 (L) Andrew Hines (Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines)  0.050      7.026 @  187.34mph

Hines is 3 - 1 against Guidera in prior events and each has won once against the other in final rounds.

Guidera nailed Hines to the tree and made it stick for a holeshot victory, Hines closing fast at the line. This is his third "Wally" in six final round appearances. Matt Guidera's incremental margins: 60ft(0.055), 330 ft(0.046), 660ft(0.033). MOV: 0.0045 seconds (approximately 15 inches).

Close Races
Round 1

(W) Chris Rivas (Drag Specialties/S&S/G2 Buell) 0.102      6.968 @ 191.78mph
 (L) Angie McBride (Indicom Electric Buell)        0.056      7.023 @ 186.48mph

This is the first meeting between Rivas and McBride, Angie making her fifth start.
Rivas was late, McBride made a good run, but Rivas came from behind to nip her at the line. Chris Rivas' incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.090), 330 ft(-0.098), 660ft(-0.069), 1,000ft(-0.028). MOV: 0.0098 seconds (approximately 3 feet).

(W) Chip Ellis (Schumacher Electric Suzuki)       0.097      6.953 @ 192.28mph
 (L) Peggy Llewellyn (Rocklin Motorsports Buell) 0.038      7.019 @ 190.59mph

Llewellyn holds a 3-1 record against Ellis, 1-0 in first-round matchups. Ellis won this event in '06.
Llewellyn almost stole this one, but her bike go0t ip close to the centerline and she had to lean way over to stay in her lane. Chip Ellis' incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.067), 330 ft(-0.045), 660ft(-0.025), 1,000ft(-0.005). MOV: 0.0077 seconds (approximately 2 feet).

Pro Stock Car
Low Qualifier- Mike Edwards - Young Life/Penhall GXP -6.609 @ 208.71mph
Warren Johnson qualified 5th but set a new Track Speed record of  209.33mph

Final Round

 (W) Dave Connolly (Charter Communications Cobal   0.012    6.628 @ 207.69mph
 (L) Jeg Coughlin (Jegs.com Cobalt)                       0.022    6.627 @ 207.24mph

Coughlin is 7 - 5 against Connolly in prior events and Connolly is 1 - 0 against Coughlin in prior final rounds. Oh baby was that close! Coughlin had a .022 light and was already behind at the hit. He kept that lead all the way to the finish and picks up another 20 points on WJ.

Close Races

 (W) Dave Connolly (Charter Communications Cobal  0.013      6.621 @ 208.42mph
 (L) Mike Edwards (Young Life/Penhall GXP)            0.003      6.637 @ 208.10mph

Edwards wins the battle of the tree but Connolly wins the battle of the stripe. Dave Connolly's MOV: 0.0067 seconds (approximately 2 feet). Unofficially that will put Connolly into the 10th spot in the Powerade Points Series. Now he just has to find a way to stay there. He has lane choice over Gray in one semi.

Mr Warren Johnson might not be too happy with this one

 (W) Johnny Gray (Stratus)                       0.731      6.680 @207.05mph
 (L) Warren Johnson (GM Performance Parts GXP)   -9.999(R) DQ-Staging Violation

WJ has qualified at all twenty one events that have been contested at this venue and he won in 1992, 1996 and 1998. WJ's not going to be happy but the auto start system catches him out here. Gray went in and then both prestaged. Gray staged and WJ got counted out as he still wasn't in after the seven second limit. Next round Connolly picks over Edwards; A. Johnson over Gray; Anderson over Gaines and Line over Coughlin.

Funny Car
Low Qualifier -Ashley Force-Castrol GTX Mustang - 4.096 @ 301.60mph
This is the First time Ashley  has qualified in the number one spot.
Only the second time that two women have qualified in the top spot at the same event
Last weeks winner Tony Bartone qualified 17th
Final Round

(W) Robert Hight (AAA of So. Cal Mustang)       0.108      4.163 @  296.50mph
 (L) Gary Densham (RaceBricks Impala)           n 0.102      4.222 @ 289.14mph

Hight is 8 - 0 against Densham in prior events and this is the first time they have faced each other in a final round.

It was a good race, but Hight had too much for Densham and notched his 10th national event win by about a car length. Robert Hight's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(0.006), 330 ft(0.024), 660ft(0.034). MOV: 0.0536 seconds (approximately 23 feet).

Top Fuel Dragster
L
ow Qualifier  -Antron Brown- Matco Dragster -3.805 @ 316.45mph
Australian Dave Grubnic qualified 5th-DHL Dragster  -3.844 @ 311.77 mph.
Only 16 cars turned up as well.

Final Round
 (W) Tony Schumacher (U.S. Army Dragster)        0.089      3.886 @ 307.93mph
 (L) Hillary Will (K2M Dragster)                           0.144      3.988 @ 306.19mph

Schumacher is 5 - 0 against Will in prior events and this is the first time they have faced each other in a final round. Schumacher leaves first and never sees Will. He's ahead by over seventy feet at the stripe and can not claim even a bigger points lead after sweeping the Western part of the tour. Everyone take two weeks off and we'll see you again from beautiful Brainard!

Close Race
Round 3

 (W) Hillary Will (K2M Dragster)                 0.112      4.011 @ 299.73mph
 (L) Antron Brown (Matco Dragster)           0.087      4.042 @ 246.03mph

The dragsters were more than a little loose in the prior round. Let's see how the tuners did between rounds. Brown took the lead at the hit and held it until after half track. Will drove around Brown, who's racer was dying, and just nipped him at the stripe. Hillary Will's MOV: 0.0060 seconds (approximately 2 feet).

The WAKE UP SLEEPY race ( no disrespect Steve )

 (W) Tony Schumacher (U.S. Army Dragster)        0.067      3.944 @ 300.86mph
 (L) Steve Torrence (Vis-Viva Dragster)              0.124      3.909 @ 306.33mph

The result is the same it's just someone different stepping up each time to make it happen. the crew doesn't make many mistakes. Alan Johnson tunes the car and Schumacher just drives the snot out of it! Schumacher cuts Torrence's reaction time in half and holds on for the holeshot on the top end. Will does not have lane choice in the final!
