NHRA: Kragen O'Reilly WinterNationals (Results)
« on: February 12, 2009, 11:17:41 pm »
Sorry for this being so late
The  2009 NHRA Fulll Throttle series is underway
Only one qualifying session was completed due to rain
NHRA has a new look site and  I am having troubles getting onto it so it will be  a  shorter  review of the results.
This is Connie Kalitta's 50th year in NHRA drag racing

Top Fuel Dragster Final

(W) Doug Kalitta (Kalitta Motorsports Dragster)  (0.056)      3.822 @ 308.57mph
 (L) Antron Brown (Matco Tools Dragster)         (0.054)      3.847 @ 307.16mph

This weekend is the forth career Top Fuel #1 Qualifying position for Brown. Brown and Kalitta have two wins each against each other, so this will be the rubber match.

Both cars leave together, with Brown getting a small 0.002 RT advantage. Kalitta Power takes over and he pulls steadily ahead at the 330 lights.

Both cars are glued together the rest of the way to the finish line and 2009 looks like it will be a much better year for the Kalitta's.

Doug Kalitta's incremental margins (negative if behind): 60ft(-0.018), 330 ft(0.005), 660ft(0.019). MOV: 0.0234 seconds (approximately 11 feet).

Not sure if or when ESPN will show the finals of this  event as the weather  screwed with the event.  Finals were run on tuesday ( usa time).  It is good to see that Doug  got a win and this is the first win for Kalitta's since Scott lost his life ( not including  the win Hillary got in sydney late last year.)  Larry Dixon failed to qualify but AJ wasn't upset about it.

Funny Car Final

(W) Ron Capps (NAPA Auto Parts Charger)         (0.089)      4.154 @ 296.96mph
 (L) Jim Head (Team Strange Apparel Solara)      (0.141)     NT-No Time

Capps is 5 - 1 against Head in prior events and this is the first time they have faced each other in a final round. Head comes to the line with a racer and no decals while the Capps ride is wall to wall. Underdogs don't have their day this time as Head strikes the tires just a few feet off the starting line. This is the second Pro Nitro win that Capps has pulled off on a Tuesday as he pulled off the same deal driving a Top Fuel Car for Roger Primm at Seattle many seasons back. Congratulations to both teams and maybe with the round wins we might see Head a at least the next event as he's in the top 10 and gets the money to go with it.

Pro Stock Car Final

(W) Jason Line (Summit Racing Equipment GXP)    (0.026)      6.567 @ 211.63mph
 (L) Mike Edwards (Young Life/Penhall GXP)         (0.0650      6.575 @ 210.01mph

Line has posted a better average RT for the weekend, but Edwards 0.008 in the last round has to give Line pause. Line is 9 - 5 against Edwards in prior events and Edwards is 2 - 0 against Line in prior final rounds.

At the green, the Summit Racing Pontiac is ahead by 0.40 seconds and stays there the rest of the way down the track. Edwards has better numbers all the way down the track, but the big Pontiac horsepower keeps Line ahead.

Line sets the final new PS track MPH record for the weekend.

Jason Line is your first Full Throttle Pro Stock Champion!

Jason Line's incremental margins: 60ft(0.026), 330 ft(0.027), 660ft(0.033), 1,000ft(0.042). MOV: 0.0476 seconds (approximately 15 feet).

Mike Edwards' incremental times: 60ft-0.976 sec., 330ft-2.751, 660ft-4.229/166.56 mph, 1,000ft-5.503.
Jason Line's incremental times: 60ft-0.989 sec., 330ft-2.763, 660ft-4.235/167.20 mph, 1,000ft-5.500.

* Greg Anderson was on fire all weekend. From memory, running low ET's and big MPH.
