Finals Reslults

Pro Stock Car Final

W) Jeg Coughlin (Jegs.com Cobalt)              (0.030)      6.643 @ 208.01mph
(L) Kurt Johnson (AC Delco Cobalt)              (0.049)      6.647 @ 208.46mph

Coughlin is 30 - 25 against Johnson in prior events and Johnson is 7 - 0 against Coughlin in prior final rounds. Coughlin with the starting line advantage and never looks back to take the win by 0.0233 seconds (approximately 7 feet). This is the second Pro Stock win here in Phoenix for Coughlin and his 42nd national event win.

Close Race in round 1

(W) Greg Stanfield (Attitude Apparel GXP)      (0.041)      6.639 @ 207.53mph
 (L) Jim Yates (Wiley X Eye Wear GXP)          (0.054)      6.633 @ 207.66mph

Stanfield is off the line first and has the power to hold on for the hole shot win. Greg Stanfield's MOV: 0.0077 seconds (approximately 2 feet). This is Stanfield's quickest pass of the weekend. Yates with his quickest pass of the weekend in a losing effort.

Funny Car Final

(W) Ron Capps (NAPA Auto Parts Charger)         (0.154 )     4.048 @ 306.81mph
(L) Mike Neff (JFR/Ford Mustang)                    -9.999(R) NT-Broke Before Staging

Neff is looking to get the monkey off his back and win his first ever Funny Car event, he's been close but never closed the deal. This is the sixth time at this event that the #1 and #2 qualifiers in Funny Car have met in the final and no driver has won the first two events of the season in this class since Force did it in 1997. Oh this was just agony! Both cars made the burnout but only one returned to the starting line. Neff could not get the car into backup mode and finally had to idle down the track as Capps was already back at the starting line. Even Neff commented over the PA that he had REALLY wanted to win this one. It didn't happen though and Capps and team are off to a huge start in Nitro Funny Car.

Top Fuel Dragster Final

(W) Antron Brown (Matco Tools Dragster)           (0.069)      3.846 @ 310.63mph
(L) Brandon Bernstein (Budweiser/Lucas Oil Drag  (0.091)      5.173 @ 143.54mph

Brown is 3 - 2 against Bernstein in prior events and this is the first time they have faced each other in a final round. Brown with the starting line advantage and just blasted on through the 1000 feet for his third National event win. Bernstein started to smoke the tires around 150 feet and he pedaled, but couldn't get it to hook up.

Tony Schumacehr got lucky twice in the first two rounds

Round 1

(W) Tony Schumacher (U.S. Army Dragster)       (0.090)      7.997 @  77.94mph
(L) Troy Buff (Bill Miller Racing/Okuma Dragste -  0.042(R)   3.923  @ 284.62 mph

Buff turned on the red light and gave away what could of been...Schumacher had problems right off the starting line, but coasted to the win. This is Schumacher's 27th consecutive round one win. Schumacher will give up lane choice to Langdon in round two. The Safety Safari is rolling and looks like there is a small clean up in Buff's lane.

Round 2

(W) Tony Schumacher (U.S. Army Dragster)          (0.085)     4.038 2 262.08mph
 (L) Shawn Langdon (Lucas Oil/Dixie Chopper Drag  (0.060 )     7.779 @ 80.73mph

Langdon was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle, he tried to pedal it, but couldn't get it to hook up. Schumacher is mixing up cylinders on the top end, but takes the win.

..............

ESPN Spoke with Dave Grubnic and he said that he and the team are trying to get  sponsorship to get his car back out there but nothing looks likely at the moment

The Funny Car final would have been a great race if both had started as both cars were flying all weekend.  John Medlin ( tuner for Neff) was in hospital after having chest pains or something earlier in the week so Neff as a former  tuner for  another team stepped up along with the other John Force Racing tuners to look after the car.

A note on the coverage today.  The coverage was good,  well I should say it was great
Basically  they had 5 hours  straight of coverage, starting with the qualifying show then into NHRA Race Day show then into the final eliminations.   Good work ESPN for a change.  Wish it will be this good all year but I don't think so.
