This is Pedregon's fourth final round at VMP, making it to the final stanza in '96, '97 and '06 without turning on the win light. If Beckman wins, he will close to within 31 points of Tim Wilkerson in the Countdown. If Pedregon wins, he will close to within 18 points of Beckman for second place in the Countdown. No matter who wins, it's still a tight five-way race for the championship.

those 6.50's from P/S were stout...any idea what air they were running in?

good to see Will make another final, cant wait to see her here in December, seriously over seeing the Sarge win... but 317mph to half track is insane!!!

looks like we might be seeing the entire NHRA run 1000ft very soon i hear...

hope not  ;)

Round 2 Qualifying, air temp 74 degrees, relative humidity 56%
Round 3 Qualifying, air temp 72 degrees, relative humidity 46%
Round 4 Qualifying air temp 79 degrees, relative humidity 34%
Round 1 Finals       air temp 72 degrees, relative humidity 57%
Round 2 Finals       air temp 74 degrees, relative humidity 55%
Round 3 Finals       air temp 75 degrees, relative humidity 51%
Round 4 Finals       air temp 74 degrees, relative humidity 50%

Hope that helps Chad. The Pro Stock field was the fastest in NHRA History
Hope that  Top Fuel and Funny Car go back to 1320 feet  soon.  I can't see a need to switch the  Pro Stock Cars and Bikes to 1000 feet.

It was good to see Hillary in the final.  They are saying that she is the only one who can beat  Schumacher for the title.
That would be great to see her do it but  She is 212 points behind him and unless Schumacher  forgets to  turn up  I can't see him being beaten.   So who else from the NHRA is coming out to play  here Chad?  Have heard of Densham  and maybe one other funny car..

cheers for the info mate...

for those times to be run in Pro Stock the relative altitude must have been below mineshaft.. as in about -1000 ft!!! amazing

Hillary Will is going great, good to see that team doing well... the whole reason she is coming to Aus is because the WSID meeting is called the Scott Kalitta Memorial... so there is every chance they might bring over another Kalitta fuel car?

Densham is coming to Willowbank in Jan, but id be very surprised if another comes too... its costing a hell of a lot just to have him... at least our 15 year old F/C national record will be smashed! i think its like a 5.23 or something? haha

Rob Flynn is leaving David Powers Motorsports at the end of the year
Tim and Kim Richards are leaving  Berstein at the end of this year to retire

Thought I  should update  the above sentences  a bit more.
It has been confirmed that Rob Flynn will replace Tim and Kim Richards at Kenny Berstein Racing from next year.

A very interesting story is going around about Alan Johnson
Johnson who is the current crew chief for Tony Schumacher is leaving at the end of the year to start his own team with a sheik from Qatar.  The team will have a Funny Car and a Top Fuel Dragster.  The story is that Alan Johnson will be driving the dragster and it will be tuned by Jason McCulloch. However the story will only be true if NHRA keeps the Nitro classes to 1000 feet and does not go back to the traditional 1320 feet / quarter mile. This story is very strange and would be a great candidate for April fools joke of the year, if not the decade.  Some people are saying it is a done deal.  But keep in mind that  Larry Dixon and J.R Todd have also been linked with the drive.  If this  story is true, it is expected that as soon as Tony Schumacher and his ARMY team win the 2008 Top Fuel  title the announcement of Johnson driving next year will be made immediately. I don't believe it myself but will wait and see

Just thought I would add a few words from Schumacher on this win.

Top Fuel Ace Schumacher Claims Record-Breaking 14th Win At Virginia

From autoracingdaily.com:

Top Fuel Ace Schumacher Claims Record-Breaking 14th Win At Virginia

Tony Schumacher continued his domination of the Top Fuel division with his record-breaking 14th win and first at Virginia Motorsports Park.

Schumacher’s pass of 316.08 mph topped Hillary Will in the Top Fuel finals, but more importantly was Schumacher’s win over second-place Antron Brown in the second round.

“Winning against Antron second-round, the fans have to enjoy that, that was the ultimate crunch-time moment,” Schumacher said. “The final round there, I felt like I left a little bit on the table, I went in a little deep so I don’t feel like I performed my best.’’

All Schumacher will have to do at Las Vegas to clinch his fifth straight and sixth overall championship is qualify.

“I feel like I drove great all weekend, but I don’t feel like I closed the deal, but we got the trophy.

“I love closing it in Vegas. Nothing personal. This is a great track with great fans, but there’s nothing like Vegas. If we can pull it off out there, it’s such a celebration everywhere you go there. The Countdown was set for a reason: to make it go down to the end. Yeah, we’re way ahead, but I think we’re doing it.”

While Pedregon and Connolly each beat the incoming points leaders in eliminations to keep themselves and a small group of other hopefuls in the running in Funny Car and Pro Stock following the fourth of six events in the 2008 Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

“Winning against Antron second-round, the fans have to enjoy that, that was the ultimate crunch-time moment,”

Would have thought needing to win the final round of the year and set a new national record to win the title a couple of years ago to beat Doug Kalitta would have been a bigger "ultimate crunch-time moment"

or even last year  when he did a similar thing to win the title and take it away from Rod Fuller
