2012 MotoGP News and Discussion Thread
« on: January 02, 2012, 12:53:06 pm »
The former MotoGP world champion Nicky Hayden broke two ribs and a shoulder blade during a training accident in Kentucky this week, the American's Ducati team said on Thursday.

Hayden suffered the injuries near his home in Owensboro and has since had x-rays, a CT scan and an MRI.

Ducati said no surgery had been scheduled but the 30-year-old rider, who was training for the first time since breaking a wrist in the Valencia Grand Prix in November, would have the fractures assessed by a specialist in California next week.

"Obviously, injuries are never good but it's part of motorcycle racing," Hayden said in a statement released by Ducati. "Just like at Valencia, it was kind of a freak accident. I was starting to train again, like I normally do during the winter, at a private track near my house. I came up behind another rider, and he went to move out of the way.

"I wasn't going that fast, but he clipped my front wheel and I went down and landed pretty hard on my left shoulder, and that was it."

Hayden, who became MotoGP world champion in 2006, added: "It's disappointing, but there's nothing to do about it but heal quickly. Anyway, this doesn't change my expectations for 2012 which, fortunately, is just around the corner."

Just looked up on Wikipedia the 2012 Moto2 Starting List and as everyone can see from my signature on the bottom I'm a diehard Julian Simon fan. To my relief he did get a ride stitched up but it's with a team called Avintia Racing which I have never heard of in my life. Can anyone give me any more details and should I prepare myself for Julian to not be racing at the front this year?

After a quick check it looks like Avintia Racing are two teams that have merged (a Moto2 team and a team I'm not sure where they raced) or something. Anyway last season in Moto2 one of them had 3 riders (who raced almost all the round each) finishing the season in 10th, 19th & 28th, so it looks like, if he is good enough, he could do well.

Ok thanks Kev I really appreciate that. Yeah well by the looks of it it will be a usual Simon year of finishing in the Top 10 or maybe an occasional Top 5 but hell that's good enough for me.

Thanks again

Not a bad race to kick off the season. Enjoyed the battle at the front but more so the battle between Tech 3 team mates Dovi and Cal. Great to see team mates having a good scrap. Something I would welcome a bit more in F1.

I hope this year doesn't turn out that we're watching who's best at tyre management . I would rather see all out racing rather than which rider can look after they're tyres.

The first couple of laps had me ducking and weaving in my chair . Amazing action with riders showing their skill at close quarters. A tense race and it had me glued to the screen all the way to the end.

Yes, there was some close quarter racing but very processional with little passing after Stoner took the lead early,...Lorenso put up a challenge and was never very far from the lead but he was never able to pass,..and there was some close racing in the chasing pack at times but nothing really exciting or out of the ordinary and they were never going to catch the leading pair so imho it was never an exciting race.

Well the media hyped the race then because the by-line on the Yahoo home page called it the "greatest race" (at least according to Stoner). In that case I'll record the replay on One and watch it tomorrow.

Stoner does it again. Australia seems to like turning out great motorcycle champions and Stoner is on the way to another World Tittle now having taken the overall points lead.

Lorenzo admitted that there was no way he could match Stoner at this race.

Go CS!   :aus:

You sound quite certain of that MW,...even though we have had only had 3 rounds and there are another 15 rounds to go,...he is only 1 point ahead and I don't believe Lorenzo will give up that easily

I'd prefer to talk up the local guys rather than bring them down. However this local guy is, at least, winning events.

I am expecting an exciting rivalry between CS and JL this season. That makes for good racing.

I'm not talking anybody down,...what I am saying is surely it is a bit early to claim victory or the title after just 3 races when there are still another 15 races to run,..... hopefully there will be plenty of exciting battles to come before either of them can claim the 2012 title,...and it is also too early to discount another rider from challenging.

From my perspective it's that I am enthusiastic about talking people up; perhaps a bit too much on these boards in the past. I wasn't directing that comment at you but excusing my Aussie jingoism.

I certainly don't think it's over until the fat lady sings and, yes; I think we're in for some 10/10th's racing form this field of riders in 2012.

Great ride and win from Jorge.

Awesome racing from Stoner and Rossi. It's good to see The Doctor back in the mix.

Lorenzo take the championship lead by 8 points.
