2011: The year in review

This is my own personal opinion.

Feel free to jump in and disagree with me.

In my opinion this has been one of the most boring, uninteresting and disappointing seasons in F1 for a long, long time.

James Allen's prediction that RBR would not be as dominant in 2011 has proven incorrect; to a point. Vettel has run away with everything; good on him for that but Webber has languished somewhere between first of the losers and going backwards. Go figure.

At least last year we had the thrill of hoping Webber could do the deed but ended up with what we have now.

Ferrari? Thanks to Alonso and Webber battling to be first of the losers they have provided some moments of true motor racing.  Massa has spent the year kicking the crap out of Hamilton or vice versa. Other than that the prancing horse has been incredibly average.

McLaren? Well Hamilton has spent the season battling the FIA and Charlie Whiting when he hasn't been hammering away at Massa or personally imploding. I will give Button kudos for just trying to get on with it when all around has either turned to crap or become so tediously predictable that it just doesn't matter anymore.

Mercedes? Heidfeld has basically mailed his season in and the Shoe, yet again, has failed to impress unless you can call doing some really dangerous stuff impressive.

Lotus? Personality crisis.

So that leaves all the garagistes. HRT, FI, Virgin etc. (and you may as well include RBR because they only build F1 cars; not road cars as well). They have run around back-marking as you would expect in any form of motorsport.

So; you can keep changing the locations and adding new venues Bernie but you can't make it interesting and it certainly hasn't been exciting.

I am seriously considering subscribing to pay tv so I can pick up Indycar and a lot of other, more interesting, motorsport because I truly wonder whether this one is worthwhile wasting my time watching anymore.

Boring.

Yep has been a boring season, the last time we had one so boring was probably in '04 when Schumacher won the title easily. Since then we have had an exciting season, perhaps the races weren't as exciting as we would have liked but the seasons were, but this season we have fallen into dull races and a boring season since its all Vettel, Vettel, Vetttel, I mean he's a very good driver, but the best driver in the best car can make for a boring season just look at the Schumacher/Ferrari era of '00-'04.

The highlight of this season has probably been Webber and some of his overtakes he has had, Alonso at Eau Rough, I think they had a little battle in Singapore as well? and then the move on Massa in Korea on the first lap and the battle through a few quick corners with Hamilton in Korea also. But if Vettel can get off the line and race off into the distance why can't Webber?

Massa and Hamilton need to grow up, they obviously don't like each other anymore, if they ever did, and when they get near each other on track its just a recipe for disaster.

The rest of the field has a bunch of random results.

Hopefully next season will be more interesting with the attempted removal of feeding the diffuser more air. But you've got to feel that Red Bull is taking full advantage of the Newey effect now and that is showing in their results.
