Wow, I was planning to stay up and watch the race just like I did qualifying but thought after the finish of Le Mans "I'm going to bed" glad I did!

Epic driver from Button, the first crack in Vettel's armor has been seen on that last lap, he's still off in the distance but now its known he is still only human. Canada always puts on an epic GP.

Bit disappointed that they started under the Safety Car, and it looks like they ran around under the SC after the red flag for to long, but otherwise, what a day of motorsport it was

Cracking race this morning, I even managed to get a few hours kip in during the red flag and woke up right on the 3 minute warning. Brilliant drive from Button 6 pit stops, last to first, he's got to be driver of the day. Seems Vettel found the pressure of Button up his back end a bit to much to handle and made a rare error.

Honourable mention to Schumacher, great drive as high as second at one point, but couldn't fend of Webber when he hit the DRS button, did you see the overhead shot of the pass, the increase in speed was massive, passed him like a hot knife through butter.

Did I notice Webber actually smilling in the press conference, maybe it was because Vettel didn't win.

Incredible drive by Button, lucky not to be a victim of Hamilton either. Thought Hamilton had a right to go for it but Button followed the normal line , even though it appears he tried to block Lewis that is the line and pretty obvious he just did not see him
Webber suffered from Hamilton as well and I think that was a bit silly, Webber gave him room but Hamilton did not have the grip. If somebody had done it to Lewis there would have been hell to pay but it was forgotten once he was out of the race
Gremlins  for Webber stuffing the down change and interesting both RBR's mentioned more probs for the Kers units......surely what is going on with this?? For a team that come up with flexy wings and the other innovations this is now beyond a joke
One thing to note that crash of Heidfield running up the back of ?? shows how dangerous this exhaust diffuser is  when the car infront does not have it, the way he just got on the power and ran up him was amazing. Glad to see them getting rid of it
Congrats to Maclaren also for setting up for the wet conditions predicted for the race  yesterday
Still amazing to think a guy that made 5 pit stops and a drive through won it!

What planet was Hamilton on? ... he spun Webber around, then went for a spot and nearly took out his teammate doh !

But Button did a stunning job, even after getting a drive through for travelling too fast under the SC.

Certainly shows to me that they appear to have got the mix right with F1 in 2011.

On the sports report last night they were saying that Niki Lauder has had things to say about Hammer's recent behaviour on track; particularly Canada.

Has Hammers been taking lessons from Schumi? ;)

nikki lauda needs to shut up.

in hamiltons defence, he does more overtaking than anyone else, i think its around 10% of the overtaking in F1 is done by hamilton.

His problem is that he hasn't matured into a thinker yet. ie to know when to pounce and when to hold off, to whom he can put a risky move on and get the cooperation, and to whom to hold off from because he wont get the co operation.

It seems the last few races he can do no right. just a bad run.

What a scorcher of a race. Big thumbs up to Button, Webber and, i cant believe i am saying this, Schui.

Whether I agree with old Nik's opinion or not I do like to hear from the retirees in this sport who have done great things during their careers.

fair enough, but he sounded exactly how jackie stewart was towards senna.

No, as much as i like to hear from the oldies as well, i hate it when they say a driver is dangerous. No dirver is dangerous, just the sport.

To quote Ayrton, "if i no longer a go for a gap, i am not a racer"

I think Lauda should have said that Lewis needs to mature and think before he gos for a gap.

You're right there; Senna and Hamilton are both racers. Hamilton is having a rough trot with the PR machine this season.

Ecclestone: 'Lewis is a racer, just like Senna'

Ecclestone: 'Lewis is a racer, just like Senna'

Thursday 16th June 2011

Bernie Ecclestone has leaped to defend Lewis Hamilton after the likes of Niki Lauda and Emmerson Fittipaldi slammed the Brit as a "danger to himself and others."

Furthermore, the F1 supremo has likened the 2008 world champion's ambitious driving style to that of the late Ayrton Senna, a legend within the sport.

Speaking to The Independant, Ecclestone said, "What we want is people racing, and all the people who watch it want that."

"I was very, very good friends with Senna," he continued, "and he was a racer too. Maybe Lewis has made one or two questionable moves, but so have all of the others, but nobody even looks at what goes on further down the field."

The support will be welcomed by the McLaren driver as recent criticism has even called for him to face further punishment by the sport's governing body.

I have to agree with you there Bernie.....

Now that I've had a chance to watch this race:

Great; great drive Button.  :checkerflag:

It was good to see Schumacher keep his nose clean and get on with it.

Good podium Mark.
