You watch Tony Cochrane try to step in take the event over with V8SC like they did at Surfers, of course he would want top billing.

I really can't see anything related to F1 accepting anything other than top billing no matter what Cockring thinks.

That will be one way of killing the attendance and indeed the race meeting.....

I would rather see F5000 and some other more appropriate categories supporting.  We didnt miss the V8's the year they were not there.

Donnington threaten to pull out of the British GP

Interesttingly, and I am not sure if this is what has sparked Bernies revitalised interest in Silverstone, but Simon Gillet has said he would pull the plug on his British GP plans if there was to be a breakaway....

He spoke on BBC Radio saying Donington would consider cancelling its contract to host the next 17 British Grand Prix if the major teams break away.

He told BBC radio that the FOTA split would make it even harder for him to secure the necessary funding for the project, ans was already causing ‘a little bit of a slowdown’ in the search for investment.

He suggested that the contract with Ecclestone would allow him to pull the plug if the major teams are missing.

"There are elements that certain things have to arrive on my grid, and if they don't I can have a discussion with Bernie," he said.

Im hoping that the race stays at Silverstone, particularly after seeing the British GP today....

LOL - that last one is a given EBB.

The bloke that owns Donnington has lost the Moto GP and can't afford to build the track for an un-divided F1 grid!!

:fcuk: - ing  lightweight he is..

Now thats interesting. Thats like getting the FIA to their knees.

Teams pulling out, broadcasters pulling out and now even the venues organisers.
A great lesson for Bernie.

I'm not surprised, as long as FOTA remain united they hold all the cards.

This one line sparks the question as to what other contracts with the other circuit promoters have such provisos....

I'm now intrigued by what Bernie puts into the contracts with the circuit owners. It's also interesting to hear that Abu Dhabi are talking about joining the proposed FOTA series. Wonder if there's any connecting with those "certain things" that Gillet expects to have on his grid.

The Mayor of Montreal has said that there was a clause in their contract which barred them from running or promoting any racing that was for a "like series". For this reason Montreal had to get a special dispensation from Bernie to run the CART series races. He is reported as saying that in negotiations to renew the Canadian circuit's contract he was told that other circuits had a sinilar clause. He particularly mentioned Singapore an Melbourne.
Be interesting for the circiuts to come out now and disclose the terms of their contracts.
In fact a lot of this problem could probably be sorted if the whole basis of FOM dealings with media rights people and the circuits was transparent.
It is of course that greatest of cons, "Commercial in confidence."

Bernie tells Argentina to build new F1 track

Potential organisers of a future Argentine FIA Formula One Grand Prix must build a new circuit, according to F1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone.

We reported recently that the 78-year-old was in talks with potential promoters, after the South American country last hosted a race at the Autodromo Juan y Oscar Galvez in capital Buenos Aires in 1998.

The local newspaper Critica indicated that a street race is a possibility.

"We're interested in going there but they (the promoters) have to do something. They have to build a circuit," Diario Sport reports Ecclestone as saying.

Asked if the old venue was a possibility, the Briton bluntly answered: "No."

Also asked about Argentina's chances, Mercedes chief Norbert Haug confirmed that the existing Buenos Aires track is not an option.

"As it was a few years ago, no," said the German.

EDIT!
Yes indeed - there is one - it is truly magnificent.. unfortunately I don't think the FU drivers will have the cahones to drive on it!

Haha.... Eno, as soon as I saw Argentina I thought of that very track.  Here are a few pics I had tucked away on the HD from the construction of the track.   I also have a number from the FIA GT race they held there recently....

There is something about circuits with mountains, lakes, views, and straights that scream to be used.  But as you say the cahones in Fu / F None would probably shrivel up at the thought.

I hope there's no issue with safety... With the lake so close by , there maybe a few problems with recovery vehicles and medical support... Hopefully there wont be any issues, I really like this track... It'd be great to watch on TV too...
