Vettel Vs Schumacher after 69 races.
« on: July 02, 2011, 06:08:06 pm »
Last weekend was Vettel's 69 grand prix.

I grabbed this from another site, but here is the comparison with Schumacher after 69 races as well.

Vettel's stats:

16 wins
22 poles
6 FLs
27 podiums
1 championship

Schumacher stats:

19 wins
10 poles
21 FL's
38 podiums
2 championships

Interesting that both sets of stats are fairly simular, especially race wins.

I reckon Vettel is racing against tougher opponents than when Schumacher was in his prime.

Discuss.

I think you're spot on there.

When Schumacher was racing for his previous teams, his teammates were always told to move over to let him through to win, i.e. Irvine at the A1-ring.

Vettel teammate is "not bad for a number two", and does challenge him for the races when his car lasts long enough. ;)

Not only that we have other drivers like Alonso, Hamilton, and Button to contend with in a race.

Actually one thing I've noticed, both those drivers have issues with getting past other drivers if they don't get the lead at the first corner. ;)

That said, Vettel did spend time at Toro Rosso, whereas Schumacher did very few races in lesser teams before he went to Bennetton and then Ferrari.

i agree with both of you.

they both seem to struggle in overtaking.... maybe its a german thing??  :hmm:

They are both fast, but for me Vettel is a better qualifier, if you look back over the past couple of seasons he has always qualified very well. Schui was very rarely a good qulaifier. just my opinion.

Also Vettel doesnt seem to knock as many people off the road, except unless its Webber.  :laugh2:

Long time reader, rare contributor.

I think the quality of the field is much deeper now than in Schumacher's early years, Prost at the end of his career, same with Mansell and Piquet and then to compete with Damon Hill, Jaques Villeneuve and and the flying Fins just doesn't cut the talent of Button, dare I say it Hamilton (although he can drive), Alonso, Webber (underrated in so many circles) and the depth in the other teams like Heidfeld & Rosberg (the other next Schumacher).
Apples with oranges really.
I really would've liked to have seen Senna wipe the circuit with him even though he had been racing for the best part of a decade when Michael was starting his run.  He was still a force at the time of his crash, starting on pole.  Might've been a different set of stats.
