The Penalty Box
« on: September 27, 2009, 07:13:12 pm »

This topic is here for the benefit of all members to become aware of those members who have needed to be appropriately disciplined, and a brief description of why this disciplinary action had to be taken.

The reason that this thread is locked, is because once the moderation team determines that someone needs to be given a forum 'holiday' to chill out, it isn't really up for public debate.

PM'ing a moderator isn't necessarily going to change a 'holiday' for anyone, but as we are only human we can make mistakes, but by having a group of moderators it allows us to look at all perspectives of an issue, so we don't give members forum 'holidays' without merit.

Yoda
« Reply #1 on: September 28, 2009, 02:43:53 pm »

On Wednesday 23rd of September, as his last function as an admin Yoda chose to go through and delete all of his posts and threads. A total of 8000+ posts were deleted in what could only be described as a spiteful and vindictive attack on the forum as a whole.  As a result of this the forum was down for most of Wednesday, as there was a lot of repairs needing to be made to rectify this needless destruction.

This was done after obtaining the forums database and your private information, such as email addresses, etc. for non-legitimate purposes.

Not only was it his posts that were deleted but many many other members posts were also deleted in this unfortunate episode.

Clearly action had to be taken, and Yoda has been permanently banned from the forum.

Unfortunately EB, whilst being a significant contributor to what you read on a daily basis was not making a constructive contribution to the team that runs the forums.

On numerous occasions it was requested by different team members that he come forward out of the shadows and participate in important discussions at that time, being a moderator this is what is expected of you. Due to his general lack of interest in being a moderator, he was not far away from being asked to leave the group by most of the team and return as a regular member.

Following the surrounding investigations in to the forum vandalism last week, it had been discovered that not only was EB asked to do a mass deletion of forum posts by Yoda, but he was also actively working against members of the admin/mod team for quite some time by forming alliances with since removed trolls and troublemakers. EB has now chosen to heavily promote another forum by spamming this forum which is against the forum guidelines and has been removed.

Whilst we recognise his contributions to this site - nobody is above the requirement for common decency and respect toward others.

Matt / Memes
« Reply #3 on: October 01, 2009, 09:43:07 pm »

Following our recent investigations on the forum, Matt/memes has had his full forum privileges revoked due to the flagrant breach of one of the major rules of the forum, that being the action of spamming. Spamming in AMF, be it in a forum or via PM, is completely unacceptable and is something that has made this forum as good as what it has been these last two years, and in order to ensure that it doesn't become a problem there always has been a zero tolerance policy.

Matt has chosen to heavily promote another forum by spamming this forum, and had registered several aliases/usernames on the forum, including 'nevermind' and 'gumball', something that is clearly not allowed in the participation guidelines of this forum. People take it upon themselves to create multiple usernames for only one reason and it's not in the best interests of any forum.

Quite clearly a forum must take action on both these clear breaches of the forum guidelines, as such we have been forced in to the position where we must put a permanent ban on Matt.

We don't imagine this will alter anything other than this forum being no longer spammed, as Matt has already chosen to follow his long term plan of starting up his own forum.

The Auditor / ibd77

Sadly, the moderator team were alerted to a spam bombing run in the early hours of Friday 2nd October, where a little used forum testing account created by ibd77 quite some time ago, was used with the authority of ibd77 to send bulk PM's to several members on this forum in an attempt attract some interest in their own forum.

Australian Motorsport Forum does not ever condone the misuse of these forums for the purposes of spamming, no matter what product or service that is being spammed.

It is indeed unfortunate that after a complimentary farewell given on behalf of the admin/mod team to ibd77 just a few weeks ago, he has chosen to thumb his nose at the forum members as a whole by being party to this spamming of the forum.

AMF has a firm zero tolerance to spam policy, and as such we have no option but to put a full ban on both The Auditor and ibd77 account.
