R17 IndyCar, Homestead-Miami 2nd Oct (Final Race of the season)
« on: September 21, 2010, 10:42:59 am »
Cafes do Brasil Indy 300, Miami FL (night race)

This is the last race of the season, current points championship:

Will Power - 587,
Dario Franchitti - 575,
Heilo Castroneves - 451,
Scott Dixon – 497, &
Ryan Brisco – 450

Only Will or Dario can win the championship here and a complete guide of the points possibilities is HERE

For the second consecutive year, Homstead-Miami Speedway will host the final race of the season where the IZOD IndyCar Series will crown its champion.

Dario Franchitti claimed the title in 2009, winning both the race and championship at Homestead.
Since 2006, the IZOD IndyCar Series championship has been determined at the final race of the season, often coming down to a winner-take-all scenario.

Homestead-Miami Speedway hosted the first IZOD IndyCar Series race of the season from 2002-2007. During that time, Sam Hornish Jr (2002), Dan Wheldon (2005) and Scott Dixon (2003, 2008) won the race and went on to win the season championship. Hornish Jr. also won the 2001 championship after winning at the track.

Can't wait for this, hopefully I'm not gonna be dissapointed this year by Power like I was last year with Briscoe. BTW, It's 9am broadcast, not 9pm.

Ooops....thanks you are correct and have changed the post.

As long as Will keeps his head about him and races like last week we could well see the first Aus Champ in IRL.  :crossed:
I was gutted last year when Ryan hit the pit wall.

Last IRL race at Homestead, final race of the season, 12 points separate 1st and 2nd. I wouldn't mind seeing either Will or Dario as champion, I just hope that it will be an exciting race and neither competitor gets caught up in someone else's stupidity.

That's not a good look for Will, having Dario on pole for the last race has made it easier for Dario to reel Power in.

Power brushed the wall in turns 3 & 4 while running 4th look like they have managed to get him back out but he will be about 6 laps down :( , his only hope now is for Franchitti to fail to finish and he is currently leading and has gained the 2 bonus points for lead most laps making the gap between them only 9 now with Franchitti looking to get 50 for the win and Power getting very few, if any :(

EDIT: looks like their is still a problem with the car, Power is back in and has climbed out of the car for now, they will try to get the car back out but :/

Congrats to Dario, but I didn't want to see the championship be won like that, I would've rather seen a fight to the finish.

Also, Tony Kanaan has been released by Andretti Autosport. Kanaan is rumored to be coming to Mooresville, North Carolina to tour Roger Penske's race shops.
