R3 IndyCar, Long Beach – 17th Apr
« on: April 12, 2011, 08:32:31 am »
Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach, CA

Race Preview

The IZOD IndyCar Series returns to the streets of Long Beach for the historic Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The 2010 event saw Ryan Hunter-Reay find Victory Lane for the second time in his career. He was joined on the podium by Justin Wilson and Will Power.

In 2009, Dario Franchitti won both the inaugural IZOD IndyCar Series race at Long Beach and went on to the series championship.

In 13 previous seasons, the fourth race of the season has been won by the eventual champion twice. Dan Wheldon won at Motegi in 2005 and Sam Hornish Jr. won at the Indianapolis 500 in 2006.

The 1.968-mile, 12-turn circuit encircles the Long Beach Convention Center -- which houses a Family Fun Zone and numerous displays during the race weekend -- and runs down scenic Shoreline Drive.
It offers numerous overtaking opportunities, including a hairpin turn just before the frontstretch. Brian Redman won the first race in 1975.

Certainly was an interesting race. Was great to see Conway win after coming back from such a big injury and was also good to see Briscoe get a good result. Though I couldn't believe Castroneves took Power out  Lets hope Power can make an improvement this year and challenge Franchitti on the ovals

What annoys me is that Power's achievements in the US of A have been largely ignored by the press here at home.

It's a shame that we don't have Indycar on free to air here.

The people who watch F1 or V8SC are people who would probably watch any motorsport; Indycar included.

I know I would watch it................ :)

Dose my head in as well MW, IMO Indy car races are better then F1, different leaders during the races and far more overtaking going on...

If there was still an Australian round, I think there would be a lot more attention to the whole season.

I'm not too sure if that'd really help get the other rounds on TV over here though.  :(

Now that ONE is moving over to something other than all sports channel, where would the telecasts go? 3am 24 hours after the race has been run and won .... or perhaps buried at 7am on the following Sunday morning ???

Pay TV isn't the answer, as there really isn't enough hours in a 24 hour day to show all the sports, let alone motorsports on just a couple of channels that they currently have, and I think pretty much all require additional subscription fees above the standard pay tv basic plans.

Well, the new Indycar CEO wants to return Indycar to old tracks and venues as well as new ones, so an Australian GP is not out of the question....

Well Speed (and previously ESPN) have done a great job in showing it imo. They show every race live, with pre race build up and post race interviews, and a few replays during the week at 8-9pm. Though I do understand where your coming from, look at the support WSBK has even though it's only shown on Speed.
