Hi guys, Its almost Easter and that means its almost time for the first round of the Australian Off Road Racing Championship (AORC). This also encompasses the Second Round of the Western Australian Off Road Racing Championship. This event features flat out fenceline runs, jumps, bumps, tight twisty tree lined sections, ruts and a flat chat bitumen run where the top buggies hit well over 200km/h. Scrutineering for the event (for Western Australian Competitors) is at Westfield Carousel this Sunday the 5th of April from 10am till 2pm where you can get up close and personal with the competitors and have a good look at some of the cars/buggies. If anyone is in Perth this Sunday, come say hi to me, in the red nissan patrol #766.
On the Easter weekend "Smithy's Place" will be alive with the sound of 6L v8's and turboed flamethrowing buggies and tin tops as the action heats up. Reconnaisance will be held on Friday where drivers get one lap to remember the 50km lap, the prologue course and a look at the run into town and back. On Saturday Morning the racing kicks off with the 89 strong field tackling prologue to qualify for starting positions for the first section. The top ten go into a shootout with significant prize money on the line as well as bragging rights. Once the starting order has been decided the 80km run into town will commence. Once all the competitors have reached the townsite of Hyden they regroup, turn around and fly back towards smithy's place. On Sunday morning there will be 3 laps of the 50km course followed by parc ferme and a break. It is after these 3 laps that the event will be over for those competing in the WAORC round, like myself. For those competing in the AORC round, another 3 gruelling laps to of the 50km course is on the cards and then the 450kms will be complete.
Word on the street is that SBS will be covering the event on Speedweek in a few weeks time and One will be showing some of the action as well.

Live Timing and whilst it has not yet been announced, I am sure they will have this feature again this year
Our team, Flat Out Off Road Racing Team will have 2 cars entered, the Extreme 4wd class 80 series #806 and my Production 4wd class Nissan Patrol #766. Off Road Racing is Australian Motorsports best kept secret and if you get the chance to follow or attend an event I would highly reccomend it.
One thing you can expect is that there will be plenty of high flying action and that the resident mad chopper pilot will be out there helping the camera crew secure some awesome video footage
