The Future Ferrari
« on: April 13, 2009, 06:45:42 am »
I thought a lot of the guys here would definitely get a kick outta this one  :D

This is a future concept car designed by Iman Maghsoudi. I think it looks pretty cool but not really that practical. It can go over 200 kmph. Also once you exceed a certain speed a computer steps in and changes the aerodynamics  of the car so it doesn't become airborne.

What I found really interesting about it is that when the speed limit it exceeded and the computer comes in, it uses these winglets called canards that are in front of the front wheels to create a lift and reduce the friction, and instead of causing the car to become airborne like you would normally expect, it has the opposite effect and keeps it on the ground. Really interesting design.

That would have to be one of the most incredible concept cars I've ever seen. Very radical.

Firstly, I think it looks awesome.

Secondly though, from the description, how does the car produce lift to decrease friction, and at the same time, produce more downforce to keep the car on the road? Another description I read stated that: "The vehicle changes shape resembling an airfoil for maximum aerodynamics. The design creates lift to reduce friction and strong ground effects keep you from taking off. The 2 manta ray like fins adjust to channel air smoothly across the vehicle while also serving to make you look totally bad ass!"

So, which is it?

The only way I can make any sense of the press release is if the rear end of the two "wings" lifts to take the load off those two tiny little wheels at the back, with that, and the canards increasing down force on the main steering and drive wheels.
The whole thing would need some pretty complex computer controled aero functions or you would be so busy trying to keep the angles right you wouldn't have much time (or talent) left to point it where you wanted to go.
And 200kmh plus for those rear wheels?

Perhaps Kimi has more influence than we thought.....

His new toy, introduced a month or so ago at the Helsinki Motor Show..... :nowink: :laugh2:
Actually he has had it a year or so now, but it wass the centrepiece at the show...... Not quite the same, but it does have two wheels at the front.  Oh yes and a 1000cc Vtwin motor.

Kimi rides a trike? Is he three years old?
What does a scanner see? I mean, really see? Into the head? Down into the heart? Does it see into me--into us--clearly or darkly? I hope it does, see clearly, because I can't any longer these days see into myself.

He has several motorbikes.... he wanted something built to resemble a snowmobile that he could use in dodgy weather in Finland. ;)
A couple of his other bikes.... IcemanI and IceManII.  Iceman I (and the Ferrari) he owned when at McLaren :P

I am pretty sure this is the new Scaglietti replacement and not the 599 replacement. Car sounds really amazing.I like design of body. But I think it would look great with wheels.I like the shape of the main hull though. But the front diffuser looks like two giant lips.Maybe it's just me, but it kills the seriousness of the car.I would try to decrease so many curvature in that area, make them more like blades rather than boomerang.
