I hope they have done the house cleaning to keep this level of participation for the full series, this is a big positive to start the new year with.

I guess that many of them might be carry overs from the the Herbie Cup Racers series which folded, but its still a healthy entry.

At least we will get to see these guys on tv once this season, i hope they can get a deal for the rest of the year. but that only leaves 5 other rounds for someone else to pickup.   :crossed:

I would imagine that  :when: will cover them in the AGP program as well. With that sort of exposure early in the season maybe a few Taxi fans will be demanding more.

Those Porsche prepared race cars are given a good kick in the knees to keep them back with the rest of the field, i have not looked at the current regs for this series for sometime but a couple of years ago the 100kg penalty was given to a car that had won the first 2 races. So if he does well over the course of the weekend they are up for a lot of extra weight.  but the system does work.

DAVID WALL FIRED UP FOR OPENING ROUND

David Wall will kick off his 2009 season at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide this week. David will be fighting for the Australian GT Championship behind the wheel of the number 38 Cup S Porsche. As one of only three seeded drivers in the series, David will run with a number of handicaps to bring him back to the pack. "Given my experience and race results, my Cup S will suffer from penalties including additional weight, ride height adjustments and a reduction in the engines performance," said David as he prepared for the opening round. "The extra 100kg I have to carry is like carrying a passenger around with me on every lap! "There will also be penalties for race winners throughout the series ensuring this championship will be very close and very tough." David will be sponsored by PR Technology along with Payce Properties, Mount Aqua and Shannons Insurance. As well as his Australian GT championship battle, David will join Wilson Security Racing in the V8 Supercar Championship Series endurance races. David will team up with one of the teams two main drivers for the L&H 500 at Phillip Island and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. David got his first run with the team in their new car on Wednesday last week at the official test day at Queensland Raceway and was very impressed. "The car was amazing. Given it was the cars first real run I was very impressed with how spot on the car was already," said David after the test. "The team were incredibly professional and I am very excited about our prospects this year. "I will test with them a number of times throughout the season before competing in the first enduro of the year at Phillip Island later this year, before the big one at Bathurst in October."

The Australian GT Series will kick off on Thursday with the Clipsal 500 Adelaide, followed just one week later by the Formula 1 ING Australian Grand Prix.

One would imagine that  :when: would be more inclined to show the GT races than the Taxis, which after all are the main game on the rival  :Ch7: programing schedule.
Suits me :crossed:

Didn't watch today at all (too many other things to do, if I'm to make it to the F1's next weekend), but I'm pleased to see this back at the AGP.

To be honest, really a local series I should support- wonder if I can get hubby on-side?

Both Saturday and Sunday came over as great races on TV. Bit of rather expensive carnage though. Hope everyone gets the gear back toether fo next weekend.
I understand that there is an Elise the same spec as the Peter Lucas car to join the field. That could put another cat among the pidgeons. :crossed:

It was great to see that gear on TV.

In fact I enjoy watching sport class just as much as V8SC. And definitely, yes, it will work out to be an expensive weekend for some.

No surprises to see the Mosler on top.... nice to see Tony Quinn getting the glorious sounding V12 Aston up to 3rd... wish him well for the weekend.  Eric Bana seems to be having fun with a number of races in Aus of late, from Bathurst 12 hour to Clipsal GT  to AGP GT supports.

A great category, hopefully will benefit more from the Herbie (Carrera) Cup dissolution in Aus. Personally wont miss them.  ;)

Thought the Elise might have been more into the Porsche mix.
Still, it's first time out for this combination of car and driver and he isn't Scott Bargwana.

Geez what spec is that David Wall GT3..... 1.2 secs quicker than Jim Richards  (but only one place difference) also in a GT3 (997 spec which I thought was the go), both running 3.5 litre.... :hmm:

Wall and Baird in a class of their own though.....
