The Confederation of Australian Motor Sport has joined with Peter Brock’s family and the Peter Brock Foundation to announce the introduction of a new CAMS award, the Peter Brock Medal.

Considered a rarity in his field, Brock was an exceptional ambassador for motor sport and someone whose personality stood out from the rest. While he demonstrated incredible skill and determination, there was one thing that mattered to Brock more than winning and that was good sportsmanship.

The newly created medal will be awarded annually (where applicable) to a driver who has displayed similar characteristics to Peter Brock throughout the year.

Each year nominations will be sought from across all disciplines from competitors at a national level. The award is open to drivers aged between 14 – 19 who demonstrate exceptional skill and sportsmanship within their discipline, as well as being an outstanding role model within their community.

“Peter was a superstar and a role model both on and off the track, with a personality that was second to none,” said CAMS CEO Graham Fountain.

“If we can find even one driver each year who emulates the same characteristics as Peter did, then motor sport will be all the richer for it. Peter's attitude and personality made him both the determined and tenacious driver on the race track and the likeable, friendly face within the community.”

It's great to see an award like this one given to foster the younger drivers around the place.

Yes, great news.

As far as setting benchmarks goes Brock set them very firmly and was certainly in a class all his own. His legacy to the sport is pretty well unique in my opinion.

Quite frankly I really wonder if there are any other drivers out there, in any form of the sport, who are as inspiring as the King of the Mountain.

He's very sorely missed..........
