Find a Category for my 944
« on: April 06, 2011, 05:45:35 pm »
Hi All,

I am hoping to bring my modified Porsche 944 GT race car back to Australia from Dubai mid year. The car has raced three seasons of UAE Touring Cars, And UAE GT. It has been modified within the GT rules over there, supercharged 968 engine, wide body, 12 inch rims, FIA Fuel cell in cut out rear floor pan, custom dash etc.

I am having trouble making sense of the local racing scene having been away from Australia for so long. Can anyone suggest what categories I might be able to find that the car could run in? I will be in Queensland but would travel interstate to race. Not sure if the car would be allowed in Improved Production and it is probably too modified anyway? Sports Sedans I suppose, but would need a lot of extra work to be competitive, unless thee are some state series races which are running less modified cars?. Any suggestions? Be a shame not to be able to do anything fun with it!

Hi Steve and welcome to AMF.

There are a couple of people on these forums who are pretty knowledgeable about the whole CAMS setup so I'm sure they will be wiling to give you some input.

Hope to see you posting here and keeping us updated on your progress in the Aussie racing scene.

Cheers! :checkerflag:

Hi Steve,
Sounds a bit advanced for the 944 series of the Porsche Challenge.
Sounds as if it might be eligible for some of the Prodsports categorys where those sorts of mods seem to crop up, but of course without a CAMS logbook inspection that is hard to say.
As a suggestion contact Matt Kingsley at Action Tyre Service here on the Gold Coast. He is way up there on the list of Porsche performers, and Queensland based.

you can always go in the state super sprint rounds where you are catagorised on power.

its hardly the big leagues but gets you on the track.
its not cheating ,if its not in the rulebook
