Memorandum to CAMS Members and Clubs From the PresidentMr David Morgan I am pleased to announce the appointment today, of Mr David Morgan as the new Chief Executive Officer of CAMS. He will commence duties officially in June. With extensive experience in successfully leading complex organisations, David was previously the General Manager of Australia's largest chemical trading and distribution business, Chemnet Australia. He spent more than 20 years in various roles at Orica (formerly ICI Australia) of which Chemnet is a business unit. Currently he is consulting in the Mining Services industry.David comes to CAMS with a wide ranging background in strategic negotiations, financial and general management and the progressive, proactive administration of risk and safety hazards. In his previous roles he has not only had to deal with many complex, time-critical and often dangerous situations. He has also dealt with often-conflicting interest groups and stakeholders. He has been responsible for, and delivered on, large strategic and financial initiatives.David also shares with us an enthusiasm for motor sport and motoring in general. His interest in motor sport began with his father, a motor mechanic by trade, who loved racing at Mallala. Recently, David has restored a 1968 E Type Jaguar which he proudly takes on outings around Melbourne, where he, his partner Kate and their twin 12 year old sons live.As your President, I would like to share with you the exhaustive and detailed process that was undertaking in David's recruitment as our new CEO.CAMS engaged the highly respected recruiting firm of Talent2 to perform the search to specific guidelines. For the first time, these guidelines were drafted from input received from each and every State Sport and Club Development Council Chairman. They stressed to me the importance of the new CEO being able to relate to and understand the CAMS membership and its requirements. I advised this requirement to your Board members who in turn supported and endorsed this priority.Talent2 was briefed by CAMS on the Board's expectations of the CEO role based on the feedback from the Chairmen of the State Sport and Development Councils and from Board members.A national advertising campaign attracted almost 100 applicants, whose applications were reviewed by Talent2 with a view of selecting a "long list". As part of this process Talent2 interviewed a large number of the applicants to arrive at a "long list" of 8.These 8 candidates were then interviewed on a face–to–face basis by a selection sub–committee comprising representatives of the Board and Talent2. The interviews took place over a 2 day period and were extremely detailed and probing. They focussed on the potential of the candidate to actively engage with our members and stakeholders and to deliver to CAMS the outcomes it has prioritised in its Corporate Plan.Following this, the selection sub–committee arrived at a "short list" of 3 very qualified candidates, who were then, over the period of a day, interviewed by the entire Board and also subjected to a battery of various tests, reference and other checks. The Board then reconvened and unanimously resolved to appoint David Morgan to the role of CEO.David has told us that his first priority is to understand what it is that you, our members, want and need from this confederation and from those of us who serve it. With that in mind he will be spending a significant part of his first months in office, ascertaining and documenting the views of our members and stakeholders.I ask that you join me in welcoming David to the CAMS team and in wishing him a long and successful career with our organisation.Yours sincerelyAndrew PapadopoulosPresident
Probably a great bloke and a very efficient manager.Problem is will the board let him get on with the job of running the organisation for the membership rather than for the sectional interests?
