Peugot out of LMP
« on: January 19, 2012, 08:00:01 pm »
Peugot have announced they are cancelling their sportscar program effective immediatly.
That means NOW. The team that was to test at Sebring is now on the way home.
No WEC and no Le Mans.
Apparently the team was given an ultimatum, stop the program now and use the budget next year to develop a 2014 reg car or run this year and that is it forever.
Makes the probable Audi victory at Le Mans look hollow.
Let's hope the Toyota Hybrid is quick straight out of the box.
Strange that PSA have continued the WRC program in a series that has lost credibility because of organisational foul ups, but have cancelled WEC and Le Mans which were looking strong and popular. Maybe they don't like being not certain of winning.

That's a bit ofa shock, Peugeot out of Le Mans after the last few years of the Audi versus Peugeot battles.

As you said, a Audi win at Le Mans will be a very hollow victory without any real competition.

Be nice to see a Hybrid taking it to them, but a 24 hour race might be a  bit too much for it this year.
