Bathurst LIVE to US TV
« on: August 31, 2011, 04:33:29 pm »
Well that's a bit of interesting news on the v8 front, that they'll be showing this years Bathurst live and in full on Speed channel in the USA.

The timing on our 10am start would make start in US Primetime, i.e. 8pm pm the Saturday night, and finishing around 2-3am on the Sunday morning over there.

If this really goes ahead, it'll generate tremendous interest in the v8's when they hit the new Austin circuit, and which is no doubt the interest in doing a live Bathurst telecast to generate more interest the v8's Austin race.

Not only that but LIVE.... I guess they worked out that timeslipping the telecast wasn't a very smart thing when  :Ch7: copped out. :)

I'm actually surprised, SPEED is willing to air some relatively unknown 12 hour and 1000KM races here in the US in their entirety over airing races like, the 24 Hours of Daytona in their entirety.... I'm glad that I'll be able to watch on tv instead of on ustream on the computer though!

I'll believe that when I see it/hear it !

Seems pointless to me if they really do it in HD, they lack the 5.1, in particular the .1 audio. ;)

This deal with Speed may have put them in a spot where they have to supply a HD feed (and hopefully 5.1) ?

Before I comment, let me just say that it is great to be back on the Australian Motorsport Forums.

It speaks tremendous volumes that the United States was able to check out Australia's biggest motorsports event LIVE.  I got to see this intense race in all of its entirety on Speed Channel here in the United States.  I even blogged about my thoughts concerning the Speed coverage.  The biggest flaw of the coverage in the US was "boogity, boogity, boogity... let's go racing!" in starting the race.  And I'm like, this Bathurst, not Darlington or Talladega.

Still, it was great watching this thing live on TV.  Lots of hold-your-breath moments, especially that big fire that happened.  I truly enjoyed the final lap as well.  Now people here in the States know how intense and grueling it is to do 1000 kilometers on a track full of elevation changes, blind corners, and high speeds.  It was fantastic!

Welcome back John !

You're right, it may work on a Nascar race at Talladega or one of those other big ovals, but Bathurst is not Nascar... whilst our cars differ to Nascar (at least the doors open and close), we're a different category.

I sure hope they wouldn't do one of those calls if they did F1 !

Did you get to see the GC 600 race, which I believe they were going to telecast as well in HD ?

I know this isn't about the Gold Coast event, but I saw most of that race as well.  Just goes to show you how much certain motorsport series are admired and enjoyed by people the world over.  It would be great seeing the V8 Supercars here in the United States, let alone in my home state of Texas.
