Coates Hire Qld 300
« on: August 21, 2011, 12:25:21 am »
Well that was an interesting day today.

I felt rather let down with all the hype for this half and half race, with a 15 minute break inbetween races.

It was very processional race in both legs I thought as they were only just short sprints, so whoever got the lead won the race as it was too short to make ground on the leader, let alone pass in such a short race.

I think the only thing that made the race worth watching was the incidents in the second race.

Nothing during the telecast about penalties being handed out for anything, as I'm sure there will be some (must check out the stewards report online).

Talking about stewards and the like, I wonder what's going to happen with Phil Ward and his tantrum at the start of the Aussie Racing Cars SUPPORT event, where he drove up to the start line, got out of his car and demanded that the race to be postponed for oil to be cleaned up before he'd let the rest of the field start. Nearly caused some big issues when the yellow flags got put out for him stopping on track, caused some to think the race had started and take off, and in turn nearly create a lot of damaged cars.

I guess old Phil won't be winning too many friends after that episode, as it went from an 8 lap race to a 5 lap race. Personally I think they should have scrapped the race completely, and let the teams deal with Phil later.  :laugh2:

Well done to Lowndes taking out both races, but also to Tim Slade for his 2nd and 3rd placings.

Yeah; seemed like a pretty tame trace from the television coverage.

Yeah, seemed like a pretty tame race from the television coverage.

Not wrong, if not for a bit of biffo in the second race, I'm sure plenty would have dozed off to sleep.

Actually, I was looking at the wide shots of the spectator areas, and other than the hill at turn one, most of the other spectator areas were rather empty, just as they were last year on the Saturday, so it appears they just can't get people to QR on a Saturday.

This year I chose not to attend, and I think I made the right decision. ;)

Well it's wet here now so it may be a pretty dull day at the races.

For those that only go to see the crashes, then it might be a very exciting day for them.

It only makes me happier that I chose not to do this event this year.  :D

25 points off the enforcer for careless driving - I swear both drivers had a shotgun and were trying to get away from each other after the race  :hmm:

Great drive from Moffat; Steven Johnson 5th in the points

Old enough to remember a younger Dick Johnson hanging  :siht:  on Winton raceway as the worst track in
AUS , well Dick I think the crown now and has for awhile rested at QLD raceway. I am glad I do not
have to go to the paperclip .

Other than a couple of things Moffat went very well up here.

I have to agree, I do prefer the old Winton Raceway over the paperclip any day.
