Conflict of Interest
« on: July 12, 2011, 10:30:02 am »
Mark Skaife has been appointed chairman-elect and will take up that role in October, after the annual Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000. In the interim, Tim Edwards, FPR team principal, will serve as chairman.

During his tenure as chairman, Mark Skaife will not be driving competitively.
The news means that this year’s Bathurst 1000 could well be Skaife’s last

Wouldnt this be considered a conflict of interest..  Considering the way SKAIFE continually speaks to t888 with the lastest being in Townsville, when he was telling t888 to appeal the results in Race 1 (Tander) against t888 for crossing the blend line (when in fact he didnt cross it) with this level of interaction between 888 and skaife how can he ever be impartial?

I did also hear that t888 blasted skaife and took the $$$ back off the table before the protest was lodged (t888 was told to go home and sleep on it).
This is not the first time this has happened.

I assume you are talking about Chairman of the Board of V8SC Racing?

If so you may find he is bound by the law in Corporations Act as well as a lot of other bumph. If so there are penalties (both civil and criminal) for breaching these laws (in such as situation as oh, say a breach based on conflict of interest etc.).

Contrary to what the media would have us believe dudes in suits can't just piss away the law because they're now in a Directorship.

I thought you'd at least have to have basic reading skills to get a job like they've offered him.  :wOOt:  :D

My understanding is that MS is to be Chairman of the V8SC Commission. That is very different to the Board which will consist of mainly Archer Capital reps, who hold the voting majority, pluc a team rep representing the teams 35% and TC representing his own 5% holding.
The Commission is an entirely different body to sort out things like the event programs, dealing with CAMS, car development, specifications, rules etc. It is more of a sporting commission with very little input into finacial decisions. Something like the AFL Commission or the about to be formed NRL commission.
Don't really see a conflict of interest, but you can bet someone will accuse him of having one sooner or later if they don't get their inventive rules tweek passed.
