Jason Richards: Benefits and Support thread
« on: November 19, 2010, 11:31:34 am »
From V8SC:

Brad Jones Racing released a statement today (Thursday) stating driver Jason Richards has withdrawn from the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship after being diagnosed with a tumor.

The statement said hospital tests performed this week have revealed Richards has a tumor in his abdomen.

“A team of specialists is planning the best course of action and the tumor is expected to be removed early next week,” it said.

“As a result Jason will not be competing in the final two rounds of the 2010 V8 Supercar Championship Series.

“Andrew Jones will drive the Team BOC BJR Commodore in his place.”

Messages of support can be sent via the comments section below, the Jason Richards Fan Page on Facebook or snail mail.

The team’s mailing address is 4/838 Hope Court, Albury, New South Wales, 2640.

That's hard news.

My best wishes to him for a quick and complete recovery.

Jason Richards has undergone successful surgery to remove the tumour in his abdomen and is now recovering in a private Melbourne hospital.

Three specialist surgeons, led by Associate Professor Damien Bolton (a Urologist), last night removed the whole tumour in a procedure that lasted several hours.

Jason will be kept in an induced coma for this first part of his recovery. He will then have a minor procedure on Wednesday before being woken up.

Tests are being carried out to establish what type of tumour it is; results are not expected until next week.

More information will be released when available.

The family has requested for all messages of support be sent to the team (4/838 Hope Court, Albury, NSW, 2640) or via the Jason Richards Fan Page on Facebook.
Hope the results will be good :crossed:

"Race for Jase!" Fans set to go head-to-head in an all-star V8 challenge.

V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup and Fujitsu Series star Andrew Thompson have thrown their weight behind a new charity event on the Gold Coast, which is set to see 100% of all proceeds donated to the bid4Jase campaign.

On 27th May, Racecentre will host its inaugural charity event for this year's beneficiary Jason Richards. The event will see a mix of V8 Drivers going head-to-head against the public on Australia's most advanced racing simulators.

Members of the public can donate $50 to race against a professional driver, in an exciting format of:

- 10 minute Practice
- 10 minute Qualifying
- 5 Lap Race.

Each session time will last approx 35 minutes, during which fans will not only get to meet their V8 hero but also race against them in Australia's best simulation centre.

The fastest 8 members of the public qualify for a showdown and the winner of this event claims a spot in the final race with all the V8 stars on the day.

"The format is fantastic" says Jamie Whincup, who is clearly looking forward to the event.

Jason Richards says “I’m so overwhelmed by the support... so incredible and it’s made me more determined than ever to beat the cancer and get myself back racing full time. Thanks to absolutely everyone for their support.”

***The event is set to sell out, so strongly recommended.***

Please call Kerry Murphy from the Racecentre team on 0448 001 319 or

email murphyk@racecentre.com to book your spot.

If you can support the event in any other way we would love to hear from you!

Racecentre's Race for Jase Event:
Friday 27th May 2011
From 12 noon til 8pm.
26 Orchid Ave,
Surfers Paradise
QLD 4217.

Considering we have had another JR support/benefit post I think it's time AMF amalgamated all this into one thread.

Welcome to racecentre. I hope some of our QLD members can get down to Surfers' for the event.

There is also the auction benefit Bid4Jase which is at this site:

Jason Richards has his own Facebook page and I'm sure we can send our messages, greetings and wishes to him here:

So people; let's get behind this and help JR!

Thanks for the warm welcome! It's going to be a fun day for fans and drivers alike, so we're all really looking forward to it. Fantastic to see he's getting a few laps at Winton, really positive news  :D

Thanks for the warm welcome!
No worries mate. You're welcome here at AMF and I know how much positive feedback the autosport community in Australia is giving to the support of JR and his family through benefits such as yours.

I'm not in QLD next weekend but I must get down to racecentre next time I am in Surfers'.

Keep the pedal to the metal!
