Queensland Raceway Under Lights.. Your Thoughts...
« on: February 16, 2011, 08:30:59 am »
What do you think about having The V8Supercars under lights at Queensland Raceway, I Think it's a great idea!!

V8 Supercars could race under lights on Friday and Saturday night at Queensland Raceway this year.

V8 Supercars have been looking at ways to increase the ‘fan-friendliness’ of the Ipswich circuit that lacks shaded areas.

Last year, V8 Supercars introduced a temporary grandstand to the track, which was a popular edition to the ‘Paperclip,’ but according to V8 Supercars Executive Chairman Tony Cochrane, more needs to be done to combat the lack of sheltered area.

A possible solution is to hold the August event at night, under lights.

They could erect shaded areas the same as Hidden Valley, that would solve the problem

my thoughts exactly, how hard would it be to get some shade cloth and put it up over the spectator area? it would be a heck of a lot easier then putting lights up around the track, its just another of Tony Cochrane attempts at 'anything F1 can do we think we can do better but end up stuffing it up.'

It would be interesting to see, but I don't care if the race is at night or during the day, the track is still boring.

A hell of alot cheaper to shade then to light aswell. I don't mind the track, I used to enjoy the old QLD 500 days. Since then just got worse every year.

I was just wondering how on earth are they going to light up the inside section from turns 3 to 6, as you can't really put light towers out in the open without significant impact protection ?

For those that went there for the 2010 event, will know how light on the ground the spectator numbers were. I've seen bigger numbers at the National Historics, than there were on that weekend.

Clearly with the v8sc demands for corporate areas, it has really put off the mug punter from going there, as all their favourite spots have been taken away from them in the hunt for the bigger dollar corporate suck up.

The takeover of pretty much all the spectator areas between turns 3 and 6 there, has taken the better viewing areas away from 'Joe Sixpack and Wanda Nailpolish and their sprogs', so they sooner stay at home to watch it on their plasma TV. Why would they want to pay top dollar to sit halfway down the back straight to watch the cars zip past them, and get ripped off on the food prices ?

No doubt somewhere on the way we'll get some rock concert to attract people to by race tickets to get in to the 'free' concert, just like they did for the GC600.... check out that thread to see the picture of the mostly empty stands opposite the pits just before Sunday's race !!!

If the object is to increase 'fan-friendliness’ or to address the lack of shade why not simply have the races in winter?  :hmm:

No money spent  ;)

Trouble is the sun actualy shines in winter in Queensland!
My bald patch suffers as much, or more, in August as it does in December/Jan.

Yep even when I went to this test day at Queensland Raceway on August 4th , I got a bit sunburn...

I was really hoping that this event would have been "Under Lights" But we know it's not going to happen now. It would have saved me from being sunburn that's for sure.
